"There is reason to believe that catches of wrasse will increase as a result of greater usage among farmers," says the ministry's director general Johan Williams.
As a result, the ministry has requested the country's Institute of Marine Research to carry out research on the different types of wrasse.
In a report due on September 15, the institute will assess the species' population, biological behavior and sustainability. It will also identify areas that would need more knowledge.
