The United States continues to bring in more farmed salmon from Canada and Norway and less from Chile this year, a reflection of both the stronger dollar and an embrace of antibiotic-free credentials of some countries.

Among the retailers running promotions on Norwegian and other non-Chilean fish is the country's largest retailer. Cincinnati-based supermarket chain Kroger is looking to push more Norwegian salmon, and for the first time ever offered the fish on ads, according to Harry Mahleres, purchasing director at the firm.
