Declining nephrops catch and a glut of various whitefish are depressing prices for both whitefish and shrimp, and some UK fishermen are raising alarm bells.

Iain MacSween, chief executive of the Scottish Fishermen's Organization (SFO), the United Kingdom’s biggest producer's organization, highlighted the rapid take-up of quota as more boats switch to whitefish from shrimp due to poor fishing of the latter; one boat recently reported just six boxes from six days fishing in the North Sea.

Despite a significant number of boats being on offshore work, North Sea cod landings are up 18 percent on the same period last year, while haddock and saithe are a whopping 45 percent and 47 percent respectively ahead.
