North American salmon firms expect happy holidays

Major North American companies expect holiday smoked salmon sales to be at or slightly above predictions this year, as they respond to the changing holiday shopping climate.

The first wholesale price for salmon climbed this year, but major North American players had other factors working in their favor.

Cooke Aquaculture’s sales of smoked salmon, the item that tends to increase the most during the holidays, are up one third over last year, Marketing Communications Manager Andrew Lively told IntraFish. The number reflects sustained growth throughout the year, he said.
