The New England Fisheries Management Council (NEFMC) met on Thursday last week and passed a motion unanimously with one recusal to set the allocation for the next Atlantic sea scallop fishing year, which runs from March 1, 2016 - Feb. 27, 2017.
There are two main fleets in the US wild sea scallop fishery on the Eastern coast: limited access and general category.
The council approved an allocation of 34.55 days-at-sea in open areas and 51,000 pounds of scallop meat per full-time limited access vessel in the mid-Atlantic access area (MAAA).
