The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) Greater-Atlantic office on Tuesday named Fisheries Biologist Kevin Madley the region's new aquaculture coordinator.

NOAA said there is great capacity for increased aquaculture production in the region.

Farmed species in the greater Atlantic include fish, shellfish, and sea vegetables.

Hatchery-raised species are also used to support important commercial and recreational fisheries, and for habitat and endangered species restoration, said NOAA.
