Portugal, Italy, Greece and Spain aren't letting something as insignificant as a failing economy get in the way of enjoying salmon, according to Kontali Analyse Executive Chairman Lars Liabo, addressing the North Atlantic Seafood Forum (NASF) in Bergen, Norway, last week.

In Portugal consumption of Atlantic salmon increased by 28 percent from 2011 to 2012 --- to 13,200 metric tons round weight, WFE (whole fish equivalent).

Consumption increased in Greece by 21 percent -- to 6,900 metric tons; Italy by 15 percent -- to 49,500 metric tons; and Spain by 11 percent -- to 60,400 metric tons.
