Tokyo-based Nippon Suisan Kaisha (Nissui) is building its first land-based vannamei farming facility in southern Japan, according to Yomiuri Shimbun.

Nissui will invest around JPY 421 million into the project, to be based at a 30,000 square-meter site in Minamikyushu City, and initially produce around 200 metric tons per year.

The company plans to sell the shrimp into the sashimi and sushi sectors at home under the brand name Shirahime Ebi (white prince shrimp).

The company will begin construction of a 480 square-meter pond after the rainy season is over in early July.
