Salmon sales in US supermarkets boomed during the latest 52 weeks ending Jan. 30, 2016, according to new data provided to IntraFish from Nielsen Perishables Group.

Overall the salmon category contributed 15.6 percent to total US retail seafood sales, with average sales of $1,135 per store per week, a 7 percent increase from the previous year. The eastern and western parts of the country had the strongest weekly sales.

The increase in average volume sales is even more impressive. -- sales increased during this time 14.3
