When it comes to industry-led efforts to improve sustainability, few have seen the success of the National Fisheries Institute (NFI) Crab Council.

Originally formed in 2009, the group has grown its membership and developed projects that now include five fisheries improvement projects (FIPs) all across Asia, including Vietnam, Thailand, Sri Lanka, the Philippines and Indonesia.

It’s the latter where the biggest work has and continues to be done.

“Indonesia ends up being in a number of ways a proving ground for our new efforts,” NFI spokesman Gavin Gibbons told IntraFish.
