The outbreak was confirmed after increasing mortalities in several pens at an installation in Bahía Perales Bay, Region 12, which is the southernmost region in mainland Chile.

The installation is owned by the company Servicios de Acuicultura Acuimag S.A.

Slaughtering of the installation’s stock will be monitored by the Chilean fisheries directorate Sernapesca.

The Web site Aqua reports there are 10 marine installations in Region 12 Magallanes: eight with Atlantic salmon and two with trout.

The outbreak appeared at the same time as rebuilding of Chile’s salmon production was announced, in that players in the industry maintain the worst of the ISA problems have been dealt with and are now history.
