The Norwegian Food Safety Authority (NFSA) issued a press release Thursday saying it has detected what it believes is a new disease in farmed rainbow trout.

According to Hulda Bysheim, senior advisor at NFSA’s regional offices in Hordaland and Sogn & Fjordane, it’s highly likely a new type of disease has appeared.

“The indications point strongly to this. We’re working on finding out exactly what it is. At the moment a lot is unclear. The Veterinary Institute has identified a possible agent, of the virus type,” Bysheim told IntraFish.
