Sustainability equals higher prices, right? Not according to UK consumers. They widely believe sustainable fish and seafood should be sold for less money – simply because it’s widely available, Thomas Huw, fisheries and aquaculture manager at UK retailer Morrisons, said.
Talking at the European Aquaculture 2015 conference last week he gave the example of Atlantic salmon fillets, which today are sold cheaper compared to in the mid-2000s.
“Customers believe that responsibly, sustainably farmed seafood should be cheaper and we as retailers have to make sure to deliver to this,” he said.
