The Norwegian fishing industry reacted with "surprise" to the International Council for the Exploration of the Seas (ICES) advice, which suggests a sharp cut in the Barents Sea cod quota in 2015.
Adnun Marak, managing director at Fiskebat, the organization representing the Norwegian fishing fleet, said while a cut was expected "we hadn’t expected it to fall by a quantity as big as 100,000 metric tons."
"Usually we follow the advice from scientists, but we were a bit surprised when it comes to the cod," he told IntraFish.
