The Marine Conservation Society (MCS) downgraded its ratings on the Indian Ocean yellowfin tuna stocks, placing a number of gear types and fisheries onto its "avoid" list.
The Indian Ocean yellowfin longline, purse seine (FAD associated), purse seine (non-FAD associated), gill or fixed net fisheries have all been downgraded from 3 to 5 (red) on the list, while the troll, pole and line, and handline fisheries have been downgraded from 3 to 4 (orange).
The Marine Stewardship Council (MSC)-certified pole and line yellow fin tuna fishery in the Indian Ocean has also been downgraded from 2 to 3.
