Maruha Nichiro to merge Seafood Connection, TESS operations

Maruha Nichiro-owned Dutch importer Seafood Connection is set to integrate sister company Trans-Europe Seafood Sales BV (TESS) into its operations, Johan Brouwer, sales director at the firm, told IntraFish at the Conxemar 2015 show.

Both subsidiaries had been operating out of Amsterdam, the Netherlands.

The merger will become official as of Jan. 1, 2016, and the new entity will operate as "one sales department under Seafood Connection," he said, resulting in a more efficient, growth-oriented operation in Europe. 

Jan Kaptijn, managing director at Seafood Connection, already hinted to IntraFish that a potential merger could be in the cards, when Japanese giant Maruha Nichiro acquired a controlling stake in Seafood Connection in 2013.
