Maruha Nichiro acquires controlling stake in EU importer

Diversified Japanese giant Maruha Nichiro on Monday reached an agreement to acquire 52.5 percent of Dutch seafood import firm Seafood Connection BV for an undisclosed sum.

Seafood Connection CEO Jan Kaptijn told IntraFish Maruha Nichiro has been a long-time supplier of Seafood Connection, and while the Japanese firm had made approaches in the past, the two companies began to talk in earnest last August about a more formalized relationship.

Seafood Connection imports and distributes some 25,000 metric tons of frozen seafood throughout Europe.
