Japan-based Marubeni Corporation said Wednesday it has completed the acquisition of the US seafood company Eastern Fish Company, one of the largest shrimp importers in the United States.

With nearly JPY 50 billion ($490 million/€356 million) in sales in the United States and Japan, Marubeni expects the acquisition to further strengthen its global shrimp program, and allow it to expand its product offerings in the US market, Japan and Europe.

Marubeni's expanded product offerings through New Jersey-based Eastern will initially include salmon, cod, crab and halibut.
