Global demand for US pollock in the future is likely to be stable “at best,” said an executive from Nippon Suisan Kaisha (Nissui).
This means keeping a balance of production of surimi for Asia and fillets, mainly for Europe, is key for the US of Marine Stewardship Council (MSC)-certified fishing companies, said Volker Kuntzsch, president of the US division of Nissui, which owns pollock processor Unisea and a 25 percent in harvester Glacier Fish.
