Marine Harvest on Friday announced it would establish a new fish feed operation in Scotland to help reduce its dependence on external feed suppliers in Scotland, Ireland and the Faroe Islands.

The company will invest an estimated £80 million ($121 million/€110.6 million) into the project, which is slated to be completed in the second half of 2018.

Upon completion of the plant, all external feed supply contracts in Scotland, Ireland and the Faroe Island will expire.

The factory is expected to have a capacity of 170,000 metric tons of feed, with the potential for further expansion, the company said.
