This is scary news for the Norwegian salmon industry. So far the viral disease has been limited to western Norway, in an area where the stretch of sea at Hustadvika between Molde and Kristiansund forms the northern boundary. However there have been sporadic outbreaks previously north of the PD zone in western Norway.
Marine Harvest is keen to speed up slaughtering of fish from Ramstadholmen in Nord-Trondelag in order to avoid an outbreak of PD at its fish farm.
Samples from farm stock were sent April 15.
