The company tested its broodstock and confirmed the ISA virus in one of its sites in Bjugn, central Norway.
This site is located in an area where there have previously been outbreaks of ISA.
The company doesn't suspect the stock came from a particular company, Jorgen Christiansen, Marine Harvest communications director, told IntraFish.
“We have several types of broodstock in the plant. But, there has been ISA in the area before,” he said.
Fish will be harvested immediately to minimize the risk of spreading ISA to any other plants, he said, and fish that have so far not had ISA confirmed will be slaughtered.
