Marine Harvest on Friday announced it would not complete its offer for Cermaq following the expiration of its voluntary offer period.

The company received acceptances to its offer below the 33.4 percent levels, which includes shares already held by Marine Harvest.

"Accordingly, Marine Harvest will not complete the voluntary offer and all acceptances received are automatically released," it said in a stock exchange release.

Geir Kristiansen, analyst at Sparbank1 Markets confirmed to IntraFish the offer has been dropped, but said the company "can of course renew its bid or come up with a higher bid."
