Marine Harvest Canada invests $40 million in RAS farming

Marine Harvest Canada exclusively told IntraFish it is investing $40 million (€36.3 million) in seven new recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS) at its two Vancouver Island salmon farms.

The investment on the facilities is already underway, Marine Harvest said, and will continue through 2016.

The new systems will be used primarily for parr and smolts and the company said they "will enable the company to increase production while also improving environmental performance," since RAS use about one-hundredth of the freshwater as traditional aquaculture systems.
