Poor prices and demanding biology is causing Marine Harvest to lose money on its operation in Chile, and in June the company decided to reduce the scheduled release of smolt this year from 17 million to 11 million fish.

So far, there is no indication that other Chilean producers are making similar reductions, according to Alf-Helge Aarskoga, CEO of Marine Harvest, adding total smolt releases in Chile through August were around the same level at the same time last year.
