Norwegian salmon farming giant Marine Harvest announced an agreement to purchase assets of Chilean farming company Acuinova for $120 million (€92.6 million).

The assets, part of Spanish multinational Pescanova's Pesca Chile, which is currently in bankruptcy proceedings, and will add a capacity to produce about 40,000 metric tons of head-on gutted (HOG) salmon per year.

The deal includes a hatchery, a smolt facility, 36 sea water licenses and a primary and secondary processing facility, all located in Chile's Region XI.

The biomass included in the deal is expected to generate a harvest volume of about 15,000 metric tons HOG in 2015, the company said in a statement.
