Citing the loss of the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) certification, Japan's largest supermarket chain is exploring other options to replace the Alaska salmon it has depended upon for years. The company, Aeon Topvalu, notified the MSC of its decision in a letter on Tuesday.

"Aeon has promoted seafood from well-managed sustainable sources to consumers, but we will not be able to do so regarding Alaska salmon."
