Now that Alaska salmon will continue its Marine Stewardship Council certification, the question is how many and which processors will sell Alaska salmon using the MSC ecolabel.
“There are going to be processors that will take the place of the people that walked away,” Purse Seine Vessel Association Executive Director Bob Kehoe told IntraFish on Wednesday. He is currently in talks with processors to establish a deal for someone to carry MSC ecolabel, which would require the company to obtain MSC Chain of Custody Certification and pay the MSC's royalty and annual fees to use the label.
