Organic Madagascan shrimp producer OSO believes its ultra niche premium product is the key to its success, and will only expand slowly so as to not undermine its position.

The company’s approach to production has always been very low density, and while a couple of years ago it had plans to grow from to 2,200 metric tons by 2015/2016 from 1,600 metric tons, these plans are progressing more slowly than projected.

“Since white spot was discovered in the western Indian ocean in 2012 in Mozambique and Madagascar, we have -- through our organic approach and organic production -- managed to stay away from this, by applying a very modest density approach,” Mathias Ismail, managing director of the company, told IntraFish.
