Prices may be down, but sales volumes of Norwegian salmon into Europe are going strong, despite the tough economic climate.

The EU market is quite strong in spite of the financial turmoil, said Egil Ove Sundheim, director of market information with the Norwegian Seafood Council (NSC).

“Norwegian exports of fresh whole salmon are up by 21 percent in volume, if we compare the first six months of 2012 to 2011, he told IntraFish.

Norway has exported 262, 000 metric tons over the first six months of 2012, compared to 2011.
