With the US farmers struggling through a summer drought, fish feed prices are at the center of a perfect storm. Prices for all major ingredients -- from soymeal to fishmeal – are up, pushing feed prices up significantly.

Trout feed, for example, is at $0.65 (€0.51) per pound, up 22 percent over last year’s price of $0.53 (€0.42) per pound, for trout farmers on the US East Coast, Wes Eason, sales manager for Sunburst Trout, told IntraFish.

“It’s a nightmare,” said Eason, who sells trout fillets to restaurants and independent supermarkets in the North Carolina region.
