Lobster fishermen in Maine and Canada were just barely covering their expenses this summer, when prices dropped to $2 (€1.56) to $2.50 (€1.94) a pound and in some cases as low as $1.60 (€1.25).
It remains to be seen what the catch numbers will be for the rest of the year, but there is already a general consensus.
“I bet you dollars to donuts that this is going to be a record catch for Maine – the catch has been so good,” Bob Bayer, executive director of the Lobster Institute at the University of Maine, told IntraFish.
