It’s not every day that a company is able to more than double in size through an acquisition, but that’s exactly what happened when haddock harvester Scotia Harvest Seafood purchased the vertically integrated scallop company O’Neill Fisheries Limited.
The deal adds eight scallop vessels to Scotia Harvest's haddock fleet, upping its fleet to twelve boats total. It also increases its 17-person employee base to 117 and adds the Royal Fundy brand of “world famous” Digby scallops to Scotia Harvest’s portfolio of brands, which includes its own Lery Charles brand of haddock.
