“For the first time in a decade, we have prices that mean we can look to the future and make investments,” said Brad Price, vice president of operations with Seajoy, which operates shrimp farms in Nicaragua, Honduras and Ecuador.
Seajoy – which has almost 3,000 hectares of Pacific white shrimp under cultivation in Ecuador, Nicaragua and Honduras -- is looking to invest around $4 million (€2.8 million) in a shrimp breeding center and some farm expansions.
This positive outlook is shared by Jacobo Paz, managing director with Granjas Marinas San Bernardo, which exports around 25 million pounds of vannamei shrimp and sells into U.K.
