United Kingdom-based Atlantic salmon eggs and smolts supplier Landcatch has snapped up a 45 percent stake in Seattle-based Troutlodge, the world's largest rainbow trout egg producer.

The companies signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) and are aiming to extend their global share in the Atlantic salmon and rainbow trout markets.

The deal also includes setting up a new Chilean company, Landcatch-Troutlodge Chile SA, to establish an independent Atlantic salmon breeding program, backed by genetics research.

It aims to capture a substantial market share of salmon eggs in Chile within three to five years, the companies said in a statement.
