French processor Labeyrie Fine Foods is reportedly buying a 50 percent stake in fish farming group Aqualande from its owners La Coopérative des Aquaculteurs Landais, a cooperative of 15 farmers, according to Sud Ouest.
The two companies plan to invest €25 million ($26.8 million) in closed-circuit farms, enlarge capacity at the site in Sarbazan, and create a new smoking plant. They also hope to create 150 new jobs.
Aqualande is France's biggest smoked trout supplier, controlling about 70 percent of the market.
