Global salmonid biomass is set to decline by 3 percent this year, compared to the previous year, Lars Liabo, chairman of Kontali, told the audience at the New Year's meeting for FHL Nordnorsk Havbrukslag in Tromso, Thursday.
Last year, global production of salmon and trout farmed in the sea increased by 7 percent, according to his estimated.
Global volume totaled to almost 2.7 million metric tons, round weight (whole fish equivalent - WFE), he said.
Catches of wild salmon on a global basis dropped by as much as 25 percent to 803,000 metric tons (WFE).
