Marine Products Hasebe was the first company in Japan to import Norwegian farmed salmon in 1980. Now the importer and value-added processor is one of around 10-15 Japanese companies buying Norwegian salmon.

Hasebe has around 40 employees and one factory in Tokyo. The company is largely concerned with manufacturing products made from Norwegian salmon, and does not buy from Chile, Tasmania or Scotland.

“In effect, half our operation is Norwegian,” Chairman and owner Osamu Hasebe told IntraFish.

“It’s all to do with history, the people, culture and friendship,” he said.
