Despite an average annual decline of one percent since 1994 latest FAO figures show Japan imported seafood worth $14.5 billion (€10.1 billion) a decade later.

The United States was second in the seafood importers ranking with $12 billion (€8.3 billion).

During the ten-year period the Americans increased imports on average by 5.4 percent per annum.

Though a major importer, at $5.2 billion (€3.6 billion) Spain’s seafood imports measured less than half the United States’ total. Spanish imports an average 7 percent rose during the ten-year period.
