Amid strong prices in dollar terms and a weakening yen, Japan’s surimi imports during 2015 grew for the second year in a row, according to the latest custom figures by the Trade Statistics of Japan.

Japan purchased a total 246,634 metric tons of frozen surimi in 2015, up 2 percent compared to the previous year.

The unit price rose 15 percent to JPY 559 (€4.30/$4.80) per kg. Over the last two years, import quantities increased 17 percent while prices rose 24 percent.
