Salmon consumption in Italy is increasing in leaps and bounds from year to year.

“This positive trend continued in the first half of this year,” Merete Kristiansen, the Norwegian fisheries delegate to Italy, told IntraFish.

Fresh salmon is the driving force, but both smoked and canned are also showing improvement, Kristiansen said.

Fresh salmon increased by 10.6 percent in the first six months of 2012, compared with the same period in 2011. Smoked salmon improved by 3.3 percent and canned by 9.2 percent.
