The Norwegian Ministry of Fisheries and Coastal Affairs is circulating a proposal for a new aquaculture act which -- if passed by the Norwegian parliament this month -- will result in a collective penalty being applied for any fish escapes from net pens.
For example, if an escape occurrs in Rogaland County, producers across the country will foot the bill. Further to this, the ministry is keen to obtain authority to order tagging and to order sterilization of farmed fish as soon as the technology is available.
