The International Pacific Halibut Commission (IPHC) is launching a new effort to gain control over the management process of the Pacific halibut fishery, which has had its catch limit slashed every year since 2004.

It is forming a Management Strategy Advisory Board (MSAB), a 10 to 15 member board that will contain harvesters, managers, processors, academia, IPHC staff and IPHC science advisors.

Since putting a call out for nominations to serve on the board at its annual meeting last week, the IPHC has received several nominations already.
