The Grimsby Fish Market is looking to get Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) chain of custody certification for fresh cod and haddock, industry sources told IntraFish.

Official MSC accreditors inspected the market at the end of November, and an announcement whether the application was successful is expected in early January, one long-time Grimsby merchant said.

In doing so it would be the first fish market anywhere to achieve chain of custody certification, Rachel Dacre, UK communications officer at the MSC, told IntraFish.

"They are very keen to get certified," she said.
