Issues in Vietnam with disease and weather problems in Indonesia have hampered early year farmed shrimp production.
The issues in these two major production countries are keeping the market in “a state of some balance -- for the moment,” said an executive with an EU-based company with processing partners in Vietnam.
This means the prices for vannamei shrimp have not “dropped like a rock,” he said. “Prices are down from where they were five months ago. Some packers need to make sales to run the factory and are willing to sell below cost.”
