India's shrimp farmers in the Navsari district are claiming they will lose roughly INR 2 billion (€25 million/$28.1 million) in the following months because nearly 500 shrimp ponds have been lost to rain and floods, reported Times of India.

Infrastructure, including equipment and machinery, has also been washed away, the farmers say.

The region often experiences monsoon season this time of year, but rainfall was particularly heavy, reaching 15 inches in a just few hours. It is expected that as many 5,000 employees will be affected by the loss.
