As many as 100 Icelandic fishing vessels -- big and small -- will be in Reykjavik June 7 to take part in a demonstration outside parliament.
This follows the decision by Icelandic vessels to stay in port in protest this week.
On Thursday, crewmen and company executives are taking part in a demonstration against proposals seeking to change the way the fishing sector has been managed on the island since 1984. Prime Minister Johanna Sigurdardottir wants to limit the amount that fishing quotas can be rented or sold and increase fees across the board, with the industry stating this will make it uncompetitive and deter investment.
