Plans to merge Icelandic salmon company Fjardalax and arctic charr producer Dyrfiskur, backed by Morpol founder Jerzy Malek, have been discontinued.

The talks "were at an advanced state but then they broke down," Einar Orn Olafsson, managing director at Fjardalax, told IntraFish.

"In the end it came down to the price," he said.

The companies signed a memorandum of understanding in June last year to "evaluate if [the] combined individual strength of both parties could generate one strong fish farming company in Westfjords of Iceland." 

A
