IntraFish recently reported Marine Harvest’s main shareholder, John Fredriksen, blocked the acquisition of AquaChile earlier this year, when the price tag was $1.3 billion (€967.9 million).

Chilean fish farmers are battling disease and a high salmon mortality rate; salmon production is stagnant for the third consecutive year. Despite the disease problems, salmon farming in Chile remains a veritable money machine.
