Honduras' shrimp farmers expect to harvest about 60 million pounds of shrimp, up from 57 million pounds  -- worth $170 million (€126.1 million) -- last year, the National Aquaculture Association told El Heraldo.

Shrimp output has been on the rise for the past three years, Juan Carlos Nunez, aquaculture technician, said.

"The increase in production is due to good aquaculture and biosecurity practices, both of which have been an important ally," he said.

And the outlook is positive, despite the threat of the early mortality syndrome (EMS) disease, which is currently ravaging through Mexico, he said.
